“Am I saving enough?”
The answer
Nobody can answer that for you from a percentage alone — but there are a few honest checkpoints instead of one magic number.
First checkpoint: are you getting the full employer match? If not, that's the first move, before anything else, because it's compensation you're otherwise declining.
Second: a commonly cited rule of thumb is aiming toward saving somewhere around 15% of pay for retirement over your working life, counting both your contribution and the match together. That's a benchmark to notice, not a requirement to hit this year — especially if this year has other real priorities competing for the same dollar.
Third, and the one most tools skip: "enough" depends on what retirement looks like for you, which nobody can template. If the question is keeping you up at night, that's exactly the kind of thing worth working through with a person who can see your whole picture, not just your contribution rate.
